So I am starting to blog. I am not sure exactly what I am doing, but I think I will like it and am excited to learn.
This all started when my husband and his best friend, Gary, had an idea of a union book for pets back in the early 80’s. Both young men worked for General Motors in the Detroit area, so unions were huge. So, they used their own GM union book and imitated some of the union language only substituting pets (mostly dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds) rights, needs, and wants instead of human rights, needs, and wants. Thus they created, United Pets of America, the Voice of the Pet, union booklet. My husband wrote most of the language, and Gary drew the adorable characters. Sadly, Gary passed away in 2018.
The booklet and greeting card idea sat dormant for over 40 years. We did try to revive it in 2005, but didn’t put much effort in to getting it going. I ran across the booklet in a desk drawer in my basement and fell in love all over again with the booklet’s characters and the hysterical rhetoric.
So I renewed the trademark, updated the pictures adding color, used the same characters to make greeting cards, had the trademark lasered on star metal pet tags, learned how to design a website, made quite a few mistakes (some costly) through this process, and am now learning to blog! All of this has taken a few years, but it’s all good.
